Queensland Rally Championship Event 1
Story by Nathaniel Dillon
Queensland Rally Championship Event 1 in New England feature roads typical of the Manumbar rally. The crews using H2 rear wheel drive cars were set to tackle nine stages across the across the day going into the evening.
Ford Escort drivers Opie, Kilbride and Baker dominated the first five stages sharing the stage wins between them, with Opie stretching his legs in 4 and 5 to take a 50 second lead into service. Further back the battle to move up towards the top 10 featured MROLLINSON, Michelle Van Der Wilk (RALLYCHICK80) and Sosimenko each in a different make of vehicle.
Two stages made up the afternoon loop after service with some clear battles developing across the field. Less than 20 seconds separated Kilbride and Baker in 2nd and 3rd, R-BOBBY32 and ADAM_77 in 4th and 5th and Keane and Dillon in 9th and 10th.
The final quick service did not allow a lot of time to fix cars with anything more than simple damage before heading out with the sun setting for the final two stages. Opie dominated again to take the rally win by more than 90 seconds from Kilbride with Baker taking 3rd lost over a minute on the final stage but just stayed in front of R-BOBBY32 and ADAM_77.
Event 2 has just ended and Event 3 is underway with similar roads and itineraries to the QRC events in Mundubbera.
